Microsoft India has announced that it has cancelled its plans to release Fallout 3 for the Xbox 360 in India, which was earlier set to release in the country on October 28. A press statement issued by Microsoft states that the game included certain content that could potentially hurt Indian sensibilities.
Due to distribution issues in the region, Microsoft had taken up the role of distributor for Fallout 3 in India, while the PlayStation 3 and PC versions of the game were never scheduled for release in the country.
Here’s the statement from Microsoft India:
Microsoft constantly endeavors to bring the best games to Indian consumers in sync with their international release. However, in light of cultural sensitivities in India, we have made the business decision to not bring Fallout 3 into the country.
Games fail to release in India for various reasons - high prices, lack of distribution - but “cultural sensitivities” is a first, it would seem. With games like Postal, Bioshock, Grand Theft Auto and many more on stores shelves for anyone to purchase, it really makes you wonder what exactly it is that made the release Fallout 3 in India such a business risk.

lulz it’s probably about killing brahmin
Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that India and Pakistan are both nuclear-armed countries that have a centuries old religious grudge against one another. A grudge that is further aggravated by their decades old conflict over the Kashmir region, and the numerous conflicts over their border incursions. The fact that this game revolves around the fallout of a nuclear annihilation probably paints all too realistic of a possible future for those living in India.
Ben, its nothing that intense. There are certain incidents in the game that might hurt Indian sentiments. Its more to do with religion. India’s external relations are not involved, and the reason has nothing to do with the game’s post-apocalyptic setting
Could it possibly be because of the mutated two headed cows?
Gotta be the cows! Moooo, I say, Mooooo!!
I think its the two headed mutated cattle (already a sacred animal) named after the highest ranked caste in India (the Brahmins) that is probably raising hackles.

The game releases tomorrow (Oct 28th) in the US!
Cultural sensitivities? Do people in India even own computers?
^^ Not really. We hire people in the West using our call centre revenues to do all our computer work for us.
Thank you, come again bitch!!
LOL…this is outrageously funny…..some of the comments here just potrays pure ignorance…..well india is no longer the country it was….extreme gamers are a lot more common here with the best rigs out there……but its horrible that games dont get released in par with the west….and moreever some games are cancelled for really stupid reasons which the majority of the indians dont give a shit about…..same goes with hollywood movies….

yeah now look what happened…they cancelled the release of fallout 3 and now hotels are being raided in india…and westerners are being targetted. thats what we get for not releasing a game there. so was it grand theft auto 3 not being released in certain arab countries that initiated 9/11? :O games are all they have over there.
To nonindianjoe, your statement clearly reflects the fact that ‘the human race has never really learned to think’!!!
I’m not INdian..but I was born there…went to high School there..so seven years of life ranging from North India..all the way to South India…
ROFL!) Its simply because some people really have nothing better to do, than to make life harder for us gamers….
and its not becuase of the two-headed cows…or Ben’s ridiculously bleak idea that the possibility of Indians living in a fallout-like world is “all too real…”(OMFG
I live by Caveat Emptor…buyer beware…gosh…really..if I don’t wanna watch “The Complete 07′ Canadian Curling Season DVD box set” guess what…I won’t buy it!
dummies….lol
And in Australia…gosh everything is backwards there..Drug use?
You do get addicted in the game, and it screws over your stats….
so there is a lesson to it!
drugs=potions in fallout 3…
really Australia? really? sad..-_-
oh…and nonindianjoe…India’s gonna be the IT capital of the world….so while you have trouble with figuring out how to turn the volume up when you’re watching “you might be a redneck” online…the guys over there develop software and give us customer service that makes all of our lives better….
and yes they do have snake charmers…they also have thousands of years of civilization as well Tandoori chicken…
go eat your Hornell’s chilli out the can…
