GamingIndians.com spent some quality hands-on time with a preview build of the latest iteration of the long running Need For Speed series, “Need For Speed : Undercover” at the Games Convention Asia 2008 in Singapore, and came away with some positives and some negatives.
We asked John Doyle, the producer of the latest game about the possible release of a demo of Undertcover before the game hits stores. He stated that EA would not be releasing a demo of the game since they wanted to concentrate on the game rather than spend time on the demo.
Which throws up a few questions…
1] Do developers use a separate team for churning out demoes of their games ? I assumed that you simply copied the code for the first level or two and pressed them into an installable image. Does it really take so much time to crank out a demo so as to interfere with the development of the actual game ?
2] Could the reason for not releasing a demo be the fear of negative backlash similar to what we witnessed with the last NFS offering, “NFS : Prostreet” ?

Sure it is because game is shitty…I dont remember, there not being demo for good racing game. Always is there demo. I wont buy if i dont play it, because racing game is only about that, if u like the style of driving, and if u cant try it…
I agree. You need to know if you’ll enjoy the game’s driving engine if you see yourself playing it for some time. Case in point…. the GRID demo definitely helped sales a ton by not only throwing in some good offline action action but a very robust taste of online as well.

Well, its true: I gave Pro Street a miss because the demo just sucked (bad performance, bad handling etc.). But if they think I feel lucky and buy Undercover without trying out a demo first, he’s gravely mistaken. That’s even more reason for me not to buy it. The Need for Speed franchise is on steady decline ever since Carbon. It isn’t in need for speed, it is in need for a reboot! Go back to the old virtues that made “The Need for Speed” so successful back in 1994 I mean: Test Drive Unlimited is a better Need for Speed nowadays than Need for Speed itself.
GRiD’s demo convinced me instantly, by the way. But they didn’t have anything to hide… that game just rocks.
Who cares. If you dont know what NFS is by now, youve lived under a rock, and any racing game will knock your socks off. Besides, the last 4(at least) NFS demos have been released 2 weeks (or shorter before the release). I guess it does give people a chance to try and like(or not), but you can find that out on many review sites (again, assuming people have good info for NFS).
Dont waste your time on the demo, put those 40 dev hours (or more) into the online interface

Im like duh??? the purpose of playing a demo is to SEE if you like the game before it comes out right?? duh!!
and this nfs undercover so far dont look promising. where is back to its roots look at??? old houses??? the only thing I seen even come close to back to its roots is the cops and helicopter . last good NFS I’ve played was underground and hotpursuit2
in undercover there is no!!!! cercuit tracks, sprint racing yes but no cercuit racing

nfs 09/nfs under cover is (proberly) the best game eva and we will only have to see wat its like before we play/buy it and could it be that bad that they dont want to let us no wat its like??????????????????

I remember the demo version of MOST WANTED that really makes me happy to buy it for 60€ at store! the same thing I can’t say for the 2 sequels (pro street specially). Looking at the demo of this new UNDERCOVER it seem to give me the same emotions of MOST WANTED but i have to try it before buy… I hope that EA will change its mind for releasing a demo version, otherwise most of us will drop the idea to buy this game.

the whole reason need for speed was a hit , was the cop’s and you can drive around the city and just have fun , like in most wanted - the game game so far , Carbon was also a good game , played the demo and got the game, pro street - seemed good online (video’s , demo) and got on my ps2 its was good not great , so i deside to get a ps3 and prostreet at frist i was loving it , total diffrent feel , but notice that if i copyed the same set up from my ps2 and did it on the ps3 version teh car will not be the same , i have a like a 1200hp scobby on the ps2 and only a 700hp on the ps3 both car tuned teh same i dont get it why are they diffrent??, and some of teh car are unreal. car strats to fly once doing near 200mph? with full downforce!!
